Surplus Value Analyzer

I consider surplus value one of the most valuable metrics in baseball, so I frequently rely on it in my research. This model includes salary data and fWAR for every MLB player. The data was gathered by exporting files into Excel, using VLOOKUPs to match records, and calculating surplus value using the formula: Surplus Value = (fWAR × Price of WAR) - Salary Obligation, with $8,000,000 as the standard market value for one WAR.

With this model, you can identify players who outperform their contracts, yielding high surplus values, those whose pay aligns closely with their performance, and players who are paid above their value.

Players who outperform their contracts:
Jackson Churio, Tyler Stephenson, Ketel Marte, Ezekiel Tovar, and Logan Gilbert.

Players whose pay aligns with their performance:
Michael Kopech, Harrison Bader, Jeff McNeil, Amir Garrett, and Logan Allen.

Players who are paid above their value:
Anthony Rendon, Kris Bryant, DJ LeMahieu, Michael Conforto, and Luis Castillo.
